Text to Speech

Did you know that Pages has a text to speech function?  I just discovered it.  Highlight the text, control click, pick speech-start speaking.  I love this.  Do you know why?  Because I think it would be a great editing and revising tool for students.  How many times has a student said one thing and written another?  I’ve even had students who, when asked to read their work out loud to check for clarity, read what’s in their mind instead of the actual words they wrote.  Just be careful.  It reads any work you type out loud including the naughty ones.  (Yes I tried it, yes I tried all the words, yes I giggled.)  Hey, when using technology it pays to think like a kid in order to anticipate any um…hiccups along the way.
